عبد الله بن عامر هو أحد القرّاء السبعة، كما أنّه إمام أهل الشام في القراءة، وإليه وصلت مشيخة الإقراء، كان رئيس المسجد الأموي، وممّن أشرف على بنائه، كما تولّى القضاء في دمشق، عُرف عنه الإمامة. هو الصحابي الجليل أبو عبيدة عامر بن عبد الله بن الجراح الفهري القرشي، يلتقي نسبه مع النبي صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم في فِهْرٍ، ولد في العام 40 قبل الهجرة، وكان من السابقين الأولين في الإسلام وقال الداني: أخذ عنه القراءة إسماعيل بن عبد الله بن أبي المهاجر وسعيد بن عبد العزيز، وخال بن يزيد بن صبيح، ويزيد بن أبي مالك، ولى ابن عامر القضاء بعد بلال بن أبي الدرداء، ثم كان على مسجد دمشق.
